RE: A book about why we take our kids camping

We started camping with our kids ever since they were new borns. They are grown now but when we start talking about the camping / fishing / hunting trips we took them on, they will remember everything about them. Ask them about the amusment parks and the other stuff that cost us all that money and they cannot remember a thing. Take your kids camping and you will get to know them and they you. The very best thing you can do to keep you kids out of trouble is to get to know them. The only way to do that is to spend time with them, in a small camper, somewhere in the middle of no where without cell phone service and TV. Raining for several days along the way also helps.

RE: What's the best place to sell a Travel Trailer

I have had my 5th wheel for sale for almost a year now. I have had it listed on RV trader as well as RV Net. I have had very few calls considering the amount of time I have had it for sale. Most of the calls I get are from off RV Trader. I have had only 3 people actually come out and look. The economy seems to be in such bad shape that not many people are looking to spend money. That and the RV dealers are able to offer better fianacing that an individual can get at the local bank.
I have also had it listed on Craigs List with zero results. It does not cost anything but don't expect much. I had one offer but they offered me 5,000 less that I was willing to take. Seems it's a buyers market and they think they can offer 30-50% below market price.
Good luck with yours.

RE: 5th wheel towing real world experience needed

Will you be able to tow it Okay, Yes, But consider this, can you stop it consistantly. The main reason I went with the 1 ton version is to get the extra braking. The 1T versions of every truck come with larger brake shoes/pads that will take the exta heat that braking something that heavy needs. I had my truck in the shop in Durango, Co one time for a fuel problem and the mech. there stated that they see more burned up brakes from RV's and trucks pulling RV than anything else. He said the 3/4 T versions just do not have the braking capacity of the 1T. Tow vehicle coming over Wolf Creek don't take into consideration the amount of heat that braking that much will cause and the amount of damage that heat can do to a braking system. My .02's worth.

RE: Branson Camping

There is just so many options for Branson, I would check the RV guide and try to find one close to where your meetings are. One that we have used that does have an indoor pool is Compton Ridge main campground. It changed hands last year and it's just not the same but would do for your needs. It's the only one I can think of with an indoor pool.

RE: 16" Wheel Upgrade

Go to a Trailer manufacture or other trailer supply company to get those wheels. We upgraded ours from 15 -16 and got ours at a factory that made Agr. type trailers. Our wheels are steel welded for heavy loads. Don't remember the load rating.

RE: Anyone Had Recent Cataract Surgery?

I went in for lasic Dec of 06 and found I had a cataract in my left eye. I had it replaced and they talked up the full focas lense replacement. Which cost about 1500.00 extra. I thought I came in to get rid of my contacts and the possiblity of not needing reading glasses was too much to pass up. A year later and I have had 2 more procedures on my left eye and they think they have it right now. I can read now without my reading glasses but the right eye not corrected up close gives me problems as I am right eye domint. Would I do it again? Not sure I still find myself using my readers even though I could read with my left eye. I don't think I would pay the extra money again it would be great if it was my domint eye. Something to think about.

RE: Aussie Needs Help

Montana has no sales tax or property tax as I hear it. Low registration fees.
Have you thought about renting in stead of buying one. There are several companies that rent RV's. Just don't do it like Robin Williams did. LOL

RE: Cherry Hill Park

The first thing you need to do is Ride the Ducks. The drivers are so infomative of the DC area and they will show you things the other guides don't bother. We stayed at Cherry Hill and will dito on everything that has been said. I would stay there if we go back.

RE: Ford V10 or 6.0 Diesel

I have the V-10 in a 2000 F-350 it is a great truck. The only think I do not like is the way they are building the new gas stations. You cannot hardly get into them with a truck & trailer. That is the only reason I would think about trading for a diesel. Right now the gas is a lot cheeper than diesel. Makes them about even as far as cost per mile. Gas might be a little cheeper is you figure in oil changes.
I've got about 80,000 on mine and I have not had one problem with the engine. I just love that truck. I have pulled most of the big passes in the Rockies, yes the PSD pass me but I just let them go. You wont' go wrong with the V-10, Go for it.

RE: Branson, Mo

Branson has just a little bit for everyone. Try Silver Dollar City. Look at the web site to see if that is something you would like. Depending on the time of year they have different festivals and things going on.
I would have to say that Ride The Ducks should be a must do with the kids. It's fun and very informative about the area. YOu will git a wacky quacker. You'll just have to see for yourself what that is.
Several places to play mini golf. We like Pirates Cove and the Dinasour Park one.
Most of the shows are family orianted. So I would not be too concerned about that.
Everyone you talk to will have thier favorite thing to do in Branson. You will have to explore and find the one thing you like to do.
If you like adventure try highway 76 in the evening with all the traffic. Ther is also a new river front in Downtown Branson. Has lots of high end shops

RE: New Hitch B&W vs Pullrite

I don't know anything about the Pullrite but I have had the B&W combo for 5 years now with no complaints. I also pull gooseneck horse and stock trailers so the B&W was a no brainer for me. In 5 minutes I can go from 5th wheel to gooseneck or clean level bed.

RE: Anyone else have this problem with Dog Halters

I have a leather busines and of course cannot activly advertize in this forum but I make dog harnesses and leashes out of English Bridle leather which is waxy and will not soak up water. These have minimal stretch. These are used by a number of K-9 officers for police dogs. Contact me if interested in further info. The nylon type of dog gear will wear on the animal as well as not stand up to the weather and the elements. I know it is a lot cheeper than real leather but leather does have it's advantages. If you look for leather gear at the pet stores feel the leather if it has a waxy feel it will be what you are looking for. If not stay away from it as it will soak up moisture and stretch. Leather will stretch when it becomes wet. This waxy type of leather is also what harness is made out of for horses so it will not soak up the sweat. Just my thoughts and experiance from years of leather work.

RE: I70 through the midwest

Kansas City / I-70 Currant conditions as of 12-12-07 @ 0330 hours temp 25degrees, freezing drizzle. Expect icy road conditions on all bridges and overpasses. Most roadways have been treated but will re-ice because of falling temps. watch out for patches of ice on roadways. Use causion, leave plenty of room between vehicles. Watch for Black ice.
